КАТАЛОГ «ХЛЕБНИКОВСКОЙ КОЛЛЕКЦИИ» ДОМА-МУЗЕЯ ВЕЛИМИРА ХЛЕБНИКОВА
68
The poet embodied the word picture of his
mother in such poem as “Night before the Sovi-
ets”.
Later she saved lives, being a nurse,
In the death steam, on fire, in flames
At the Russo-Turkish War,
Looked after the wounded to give them some
caress and delight…
You, the phantom of patient death, get lost!
We know from the letter of Vera Khlebnikova
to Maxim Gorky that Y. Verbitskaya “looked after
the sick wounded soldiers a lot, with her loving at-
tendance bringing back to life and health all those
already prescribed to death by doctors…”
The “Certificate” is not only a rare document
of the long-gone-away era, but also a paragon of
the document artwork layout: the color printing,
copperplate handwriting, etc.
