“Portrait of V. Khlebnikov (1930s)

A bust-length portraiture of a grey-beard clo-

sing his face with his arms bent at the elbows. The

portrait makes a woeful impression. It seems that

these hands closed the face of a person tired of life

and hardly chocking back his despair. There are

also some other portraits of V. Khlebnikov by Petr

Miturich.

Graphic Works by May Miturich

As it has already been mentioned, the best

results in the book illustration for children are as-

sociated with the name of May Miturich. “The il-

lustrations by Miturich radiate a soft charm, pla-

stic artistry and humor…” (M. Chegodayeva “Draw-

ing with Light”; May Miturich: Painting &

Graphics; Catalogue for the Exhibition Dedicated

to the 80th Anniversary of Birth; Moscow, 2005).

The artist donated the Astrakhan Picture Gallery

some illustrations for the following children’s

books: D. Harms “Forty-Four Jolly Siskins” (1973),

K. Chukovskiy “The Giant Roach” (1970), K. Chu-

kovskiy “Buzzy-Wuzzy Busy Fly” and others; as well

as such books illustrated by him as “Alice in Won-

derland” by L. Carroll, “Mowgli” by R. Kipling,

“About Deers” by G. Snegiryov, etc.

During 1970s, 1980s and even 1990s, May Mi-

turich traveled a lot: the White Sea, the Central-

Asian deserts, the Caucasian subtropics, the Kuril

Islands, the Commander Islands were the mile-

noes)” (1979), “The Katun at the Settlement of

Yin” (1980), “In Bulgaria” (1984), “A Morning in
