In 1976, M. Mituruch was awarded with the 1st Prize of the Moscow Regional Union of
Artists for the best graphic work of the year. In 1980, he was given a title of the Distin-
guished Artist of the RSFSR, and in 1986 – the People’s Artist. In 1987, M. Miturich was
awarded with a silver medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR for the wall painting in the
Natural History Museum of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1988, he was elected
as a corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR and in 1991 – a full mem-
ber of the Russian Academy of Arts.
In 1993–1994, he lived and worked in Japan: painting, watercolor, book illustrations.
In 1993, May Miturich was awarded with the State Prize of Russia.
In the spring of 2000, there was a big retrospective exhibition of the artist in Moscow,
covering the 50-year period of his creative activity. He was awarded with a gold medal of the
Russian Academy of Arts for the graphic and painting works featured in his personal exhi-
bition.
In 2002–2003, Miturich went to Japan, Greece, Spain, creating some new series of
watercolors and ink drawings. In 2005, there was a retrospective exhibition of the artist’s
works in Moscow. In the same year, he was a laureate of the B. Kustodiev Prize in Astrakhan.
By the name of May Miturich the best achievements in the children’s book illustration
go. He illustrated about one hundred books, including the ones by Marshak and
Chukovskiy, Barto and Snegiryov, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Carroll, “Mowgli”
by Kipling and many others award-winning in Russia and awarded with medals of the inter-
national exhibitions in Leipzig and Bratislava.
